"Once Upon a Time" tells the story of a new world, one in which fairy-tale legends and modern life collide. Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) is comfortable in her life as a bail bonds collector when Henry -- the child she gave up a decade earlier -- suddenly shows up. He is convinced that she is the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, who sent her away before the Evil Queen could cast a spell, freezing the fairytale world in time and bringing them to present-day Storybrooke, Maine. After taking Henry home, Emma decides to stay in the town to keep an eye on him, and she discovers he may not be wrong after all.

CBS books a new version of the classic "Hawaii Five-0" series, with Alex O'Loughlin in the lead role as Det. Steve McGarrett and Scott Caan portraying Danno. The detectives are part of an elite task force whose mission is to eliminate crime on the beaches of the Aloha State. Assisting McGarrett and Danno is former Honolulu Police detective Chin Ho Kelly, who has been relegated to a federal security patrol after being wrongfully accused of corruption. Chin's fresh-out-of-the-academy cousin, Kono, also joins the team as she tries to establish herself among the department's elite.

The first in a planned series of shows detailing the Marvel universe, "Daredevil" follows Matt Murdock, attorney by day and vigilante by night. While investigating a homicide, Detective Rebecca Madsen discovers fingerprints that belong to a former Alcatraz inmate, who was believed to have died decades earlier. A family past with the prison makes her especially interested in the case, so she turns to an Alcatraz expert and comic-book enthusiast, Dr. Diego "Doc" Soto for help piecing together what happened. Together, they discover that the suspect is alive and appears not to have aged since his incarceration and that soon he will be joined by other former inhabitants of the prison.

This British drama series follows the lives of the Crawley family and its servants in the family's classic Georgian country house. The series begins with the 1912 sinking of the Titanic, which leaves Downton Abbey's future in jeopardy, since the presumptive heirs of Robert, Earl of Grantham -- his cousin James, and James' son, Patrick -- die in the catastrophe, leaving the family without a male offspring to take over Downton when the current lord dies. The point is important since Lord Grantham's children are daughters -- Ladies Mary, Edith and Sybil, but the facets of their lives and of those of the below-stairs staff -- also a highly regimented world -- have fascinating story lines.

When Marine Sgt. Nicholas Brody returns home following eight years in captivity, CIA agent Carrie Mathison thinks he has turned and is connected to a terror plot to be carried out on American soil, and she engages him in a dangerous game of cat and mouse that puts America's national security at risk. Later on, Carrie gets a promotion and returns to the front lines overseas. She is assigned to one of the CIA's most volatile and dangerous stations in the Middle East, where she is in the heart of battle in the war on terror.

A 1995 murder case is revisited 17 years later, calling into question the supposed solving of the crime by Louisiana State Police Detectives Rust Cohle and Martin Hart, and reopening old wounds related to the detectives' volatile partnership and personal lives. The inquiry unfolds in the present day through separate interrogations of the now former co-workers, who narrate the story of both the investigation and their lives, including why Cohle left Louisiana's Criminal Investigation Division in 2002. As the timeline weaves between 1995 and 2012, Cohle and Hart are brought back to a world both thought they had left behind.

Mild-mannered high school chemistry teacher Walter White thinks his life can't get much worse. His salary barely makes ends meet, a situation not likely to improve once his pregnant wife gives birth, and their teenage son is battling cerebral palsy.
